Keeping a Sketchbook Habit (Badly, On Purpose)

I keep a sketchbook the way some people keep a diary: inconsistently, with coffee rings, and without a plan for an audience. The point is not a portfolio. The point is to look longer at whatever is in front of me.
Most pages stay private. A few abstractions and studies end up on the Art page because I like the idea of unfinished work living somewhere public — unfinished on purpose — evidence that I was paying attention that week.
If you draw, write, or make anything: protect a small daily window where the result does not have to be good. That window is where the interesting mistakes happen.
